PCFS Rope Rescue Qualification Course
Pre-Requisites
- Internal NFPA 1001 Level II (Obtained prior to course start date)
- Minimum 2 years’ with PCFS
- Previous rope related experience preferred.
Course Objectives
- Upon completion of this course, students will be able to manage a rope rescue operation. This means being able to identify and manage potential hazards and resource needs associated with the rescue.
- Students will be able to access, triage, stabilize, and prep victims to be transported to a safety.
- Students will be able to inspect and maintain all PPE and equipment associated with rope rescue. This includes scheduled inspections and maintenance, as well as proper documentation associated with these tasks.
- Students will be able to tie various knots, bends, and hitches that will allow for safe and effective rope rescue operations.
- Students will be able to safely set up rope systems, with or without mechanical advantage, to raise and lower rescuers and/or victims, in both a high and low angle environment. These systems will be checked properly and deployed in a safe manner.
** This course is extremely physical, you will be required to be in a harness, hanging on a steep slope, for potentially an hour at a time. Please consider this before signing up.**
